The Home Secretary has appointed the new Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner: Eleanor Lyons. The role of the Anti-Slavery Commissioner was first established by the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and its main function is to collaborate with the government to ensure the effective tackling of modern slavery in the UK. The Anti-Slavery Commissioner is expected to encourage good practice in the prevention, detection, investigations and prosecution of slavery and human trafficking offences as well as the in the identification of victims.
Ms Lyons will take up her new role from 11 December 2023, after the conclusion of her current role as Deputy Children’s Commissioner.
