Managing Director, Philippa Southwell, was invited by the Modern Slavery – Organised Immigration Crime Unit to provide training to the police on human trafficking and exploitation in the context of victims from China. The webinar for the launch was attended by over 300 law enforcement officers. 75% of victims referred into the NRM in 2023 were non-British citizens, indicating that a significant percentage of victims dealt with by law enforcement agencies investigating Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking in the UK are foreign nationals. Chinese nationals were among the top 10 nationalities referred to the NRM in 2023.

Modern Slavery – Organised Immigration Crime has just launched their Chinese Cultural Resource last month. The resource includes valuable information on Chinese culture and customs that might contribute to the trafficking and exploitation of vulnerable members of society. It is important to acknowledge cultural differences and beliefs, such as the importance of family/gender dynamics and saving face in order to assist in breaking down barriers and seek justice for those affected.
