Philippa Southwell, our managing director, spoke at the Probation Institute Trainees event this week. Philippa lectured on modern slavery law and practice.
The Probation Institute provides professional leadership for probation workers and all those who deliver services that protect the public and rehabilitate offenders. The event was exclusively for trainees to promote knowledge and awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.
The role of probation is an important one in relation to modern slavery and human trafficking cases as they are first responders. First responders are frontline workers who are first to interact with potential modern slavery and human trafficking victims and spot the signs of exploitation. Their role is to identify and refer potential victims of modern slavery into the National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
